8. The Snail
The mutation to feminity

The story:
In order to achieve my goal to get closer to making the encoding of still life clearer and more simple, I decided to present the Grand Mussel and the Grand Snails separately once more with altered form and colour. By disentangling them in this way, I could show details more effectively and make the changes more obviously recognisable. This picture was therefore also a starting point for the later transformations of mussels to feminity.
The mutation of the object is articulated in this painting with its contrasting cold and warm shades. Detached lime fragments drift away in space from the inner point of the shell and inch their way towards the viewer. They constitute space within space. The snail shell has not yet fully transformed itself but the first pieces are beginning to dissolve, implying a future mutation for this motive.
