4. Grand Musselhill
My symbol for femininity as a figure
Picture information: 29.5cm x 29.5cm, oil on canvas
The story:
By changing colours, I developed the contours of a figure from the 3 grand models for the first time. The grand models were for me the basis of metamorphosis or change. This painting also clearly displays a connection to an earlier theme "Beach of my Dreams".
On this theme I painted the beach scene from my holiday hotel both starkly and brutally. In point of fact, I painted overweight people who quite simply blocked the view, people who compelled other holiday makers to move elsewhere if they had any wish to enjoy the beautiful view. As the harsh artistic statement of my 'beach Pictures' wasn't understandable to the viewer, it quickly became clear to me that a realistic portrayal of such a situation stands directly in opposition to the capability of experiencing any 'finer feeling'.
I didn't wish to change the inherent statement under any circumstances, so it occurred to me to simply replace the overweight people with large mussels. In this way, the representation would be significantly more pleasing to the eye, without altering the original statement.

This in turn inspired me to create a miniature of Musselhill. Using a certain amount of imagination, the legs, upper body and the head with its crown are recognisable. The chosen colours correspond to the colours of iconic painting in its purest form: red, blue, green and yellow/gold. The colours signify the envisaged sand: here a figure is also positioned on the sand. |
