2. The Grand Mussel
A symbol of femininity

The story:
This mussel possesses bumps and humps which have been sanded down by the sea over time, and a central opening with the typical spiral of emotional life. I painted it on a sand coloured foundation with a strong hard shadow. In this way its form and colour are shown to their best advantage.
My additional insights and pictorial changes will become clear in other paintings with this motive when they are compared with the Grand Mussel.
